Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Isabella. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said 29-year-old Travis James Butenhoff of Cloquet was found dead in a home at 9419 Holden Court last week. Lake County deputies found him after responding to a call for an unresponsive person shortly after 5:30 a.m. Nov. 28. Butenhoff was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, which was still working Tuesday to identify a cause of death.
The winter storm that moved through northern Wisconsin and the Arrowhead region Sunday, Nov. 4, brought mostly rain to the area, but some wet snow accumulated further away from Lake Superior. The Twin Ports saw rain near the lake, but 1.8 inches of snow was reported near the Duluth International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. Just outside of Two Harbors, the National Weather Service reported snow totals of 2.5 inches and 3.4 inches. Elsewhere in Lake County, reports of between 3.3 inches and 6 inches of snow were recorded in Finland.
Two people and a dog were injured Tuesday when they were struck by lightning at a campground northeast of Ely. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that lightning struck some trees near a man and a woman while they were sitting with their dog in a tent at the Fall Lake Campground at 9:11 p.m. The man and woman were transported to the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The dog’s injuries were also non-life-threatening.

A Coon Rapids, Minn., man died after a canoe capsized in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Saturday night. The body of Joseph Bennett Fedick, 31, was recovered from the water at 3:34 p.m. Monday about 200 yards away from the Perent Lake campsite where he had been staying, according to a report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
