The defense was stifling as the Two Harbors Youth Soccer Club’s 19U girls team cruised to an undefeated season and an Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association title.

The team went 8-0-1 during the regular season and had three wins in the playoffs, including a 6-1 win over Hibbing in the championship game Sunday, July 14.

The team allowed just six goals over 12 games and recorded seven shutouts on their way to the championship.

By contrast, the team scored 66 goals this season — including 18 in the playoffs.

The team, which included girls ages 14-19 from the Two Harbors High School varsity and junior varsity squads, also took their summer season to explore different positions.

“Nearly every player had a least one goal this season and many players played multiple positions throughout the season, including at goalie,” coach Cass Beardsley said in an email. “This enabled them to play out of their usual positions and get an appreciation for what their teammates have to do during games.”
