Two Harbors-Cook County’s Nordic ski season got off to a late start at the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Classic Invitational Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Agates were unable to compete in the Proctor/Hermantown meet Dec. 10 at the Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth because of extreme cold.

Junior Cedar Gordon led the Agates with a 25th place finish in 24 minutes, 8.9 seconds. Gordon's time was a little over four minutes behind meet winner Lydia Skelton of Mesabi East.

Leah Christensen finished a little over a minute later in 27th place and sophomore Autumn Smith came in 30th with a time of 26:11.4.

Head coach Kevin Hudson said the team is working hard to improve and their focus is adjusting to more varied terrain.

“The varsity girls showed a lot of individual improvement in their classic skiing at the CEC meet,” Hudson said. “More work is needed on hilly terrain which is the focus of our practices over the holiday break.”

THCC is scheduled to compete next at the Ely Invitational at noon Saturday, Dec. 28 at Giant’s Ridge.
