Lake County mushers compete in Gunflint Mail Run

Several Lake County mushers competed Saturday, Jan. 5, in Cook County's Gunflint Mail Run, which kicks off sled dog racing season on the North Shore.

Fourteen teams competed in the 100-mile, 12-dog team race and eight competed in the 65-mile, eight-dog race.

Lake County sled dog racers Blake and Jennifer Freking of Manitou Crossing Kennels in Finland and Ward Wallin of Silver Creek Sled Dogs in Two Harbors finished in the top 10 in the 100-mile race.
