The second annual pickleball tournament Saturday, June 29, at the Rukavina Arena in Silver Bay. The tournament will kick off at 9 a.m. Registration, which is required, is available at the arena June 28 from 6-9 p.m.
"That's when people can come and actually learn the game," organizer Stacey Hohman said. "Beginners and experienced players are all welcome at this tournament. If we have enough people, we'll have beginner and intermediate tournament brackets."
Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, racquetball and table tennis played on a 20-by-44-foot court, about one-third the size of a tennis court. The ball is similar to a smaller whiffle ball.
Entry into the tournament is $20 per participant, though it's free to attend the tournament to watch. All proceeds will go to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. Last year's proceeds went to stocking the fishing pond where the veterans go to fish.
"Plus, we'll have some of veterans here to watch the event," Hohman said. "It'll be a fun day for everyone."
Na-cho Bizness, a local food truck, will be on hand at the event. To register or for more information, contact Stacey Hohman, 218-220-9433 or Jenny Ramsdell 218-220-2174.
