Silver Bay senior Mason Ollman rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns as the Mariners routed Cherry 47-20 in a Section 7 Nine-Man semifinal Saturday, Oct. 26, in Silver Bay.
Silver Bay led 7-6 after the first quarter, but the Mariner offense exploded for 26 second-quarter points on the strength of three Ollman scores and an 80-yard kick return for a touchdown by senior Riley Tiboni.
Tiboni also threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Carter Zabrocki in the win and ran for a third quarter touchdown that extended the Mariners’ lead to 28 points.
The game contrasts sharply with the teams’ first meeting — a 15-0 Mariner win Sept. 20. Defense dominated the first game, with Silver Bay leading just 3-0 entering the fourth quarter. Ollman and junior Luc Stadler each scored in the final quarter to give Silver Bay some breathing room late in the game.
Silver Bay (8-2) will face Mountain Iron-Buhl, a 54-18 winner over Cook County, in the section championship at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Esko.
MIB (8-1) is looking to repeat as section champion. The Rangers advanced to the Minnesota Nine-Man semifinals in 2018 before losing 42-8 to Mountain Lake.
