Silver Bay senior Mason Ollman rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns as the Mariners won their District 9 Blue homecoming game over Cook County on Friday, Oct. 4.

The Mariners jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead thanks to Ollman’s three scores, with Riley Tiboni and Derek Thompson each scoring twice in the first half. Tiboni scored on a 2-yard run and Thompson scored on a 20-yard pass from Tiboni.

Silver Bay Coach Ward Kaiser was pleased with his team’s performance despite the homecoming festivities that peppered the week leading up the game.

“The guys were pretty focused even with all that stuff going on,” Kaiser said. “They worked hard in practice and they’ve been getting better with each game. We started out the season filling a bunch of positions with guys that didn’t have a lot of experience. Each week, we’re seeing improvement and I think really came together.”

The Silver Bay defense is getting stronger as the season goes along, with the Mariners recording shutouts in three of their last four games. Silver Bay also blanked Northeast Range 37-0 on Sept. 13 and Cherry 15-0 on Sept. 20.

Kaiser was impressed with the way his defense has progressed since a 38-15 loss to Isle on Sept. 6.

Silver Bay (5-1) was scheduled to play South Ridge on Thursday Oct. 10, and will finish the regular season at Hill City/Northland at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.
