Two Harbors seniors Elise Poe-Johnson and Tricia Osbakken each had 12 points to help lead the Agates to a 56-41 home win over Duluth Denfeld.

The Two Harbors defense — as well as a poor shooting performance by Denfeld — allowed the Agates to hold the Hunters to just 16 first-half points and build a 14-point lead.

The Agates struggled a little more from the field in the second half, but Poe-Johnson scored eight of her points in the second half to help Two Harbors maintain the lead.

Kate Thomasen added 11 points for Two Harbors and Jada Larson scored nine points in the win.

The Hunters’ Zoe Nonnemacher led all scorers with 16 points.

With the victory, Two Harbors has won six of its last seven games and wins over Cook County, Aitkin and Wrenshall. The Agates have been a surprising team this season, especially during the last three weeks.

Two Harbors was expected to take a step back after the departure of Tori Bott for Bemidji State. With eight seniors returning this season, the Agates, however, had plenty of players with varsity experience to replace the production of a dominant player like Bott.

That being said, the Agates have some difficult games remaining before the end of the regular season, including home games against Virginia and Mesabi East before finishing at Proctor.

Two Harbors (12-9) are next scheduled to host South Ridge at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13.
