Two Harbors junior Jeremiah Johnson scored 19 points to lead the Agates to a 62-54 home win over Silver Bay.

Johnson scored 15 of his points in the second half, including five-straight in the early part of the half to help stop Silver Bay from climbing back into the game.

Two Harbors jumped out to a 30-7 lead with about two minutes remaining in the half. The Agates forced Silver Bay players to take highly contested shots around the rim or low-percentage shots from far beyond the 3-point arc.

Freshman Trent Gomez powered the Two Harbors offense in the first half, scoring 16 of his 19 in to help build the Agate lead.

“I think our team defense was really good,” Two Harbors coach Bill Anderson said. “I think we were able to jump out on them early, maybe surprise them a little bit.”

The Mariners started to shoot better in the final minutes, cutting the lead to 30-15 at halftime. Sophomore Manor Ollman hit a pair from long range early in the second half to help trim the lead to 30-23.

Mason Ollman — Silver Bay’s leading scorer — struggled in the first half and picked up three fouls. He picked up two more in quick succession in the second half and was forced to the bench with about 13 minutes left in the game with just four points.

Mason Ollman’s exit came at the end of a 10-0 Agate run that extended the lead back to 17.

Silver Bay’s Riley Tiboni led a Mariner comeback, scoring 15 of his game-high 30 points in a 18-6 run that forced Anderson to call a timeout with the Agates leading 46-41.

“We know their key players are Tiboni and Ollman,” Anderson said. “Tiboni was phenomenal in the second half. “He made shots that were well-defended — what can you do about that but move on?”

Silver Bay could get no closer and Johnson went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the game for Two Harbors.
