An overcast sky and short rain showers didn't deter residents from gathering for the grand opening of the North Shore Adventure Park in Silver Bay on Friday, May 24.

The park is a new kind of recreational experience that combines zip lines with ropes course climbing structures along 4 acres of forested hillside next to Minnesota Highway 61.

The first climbers, of all ages, had the chance to experience the color-coded challenges, which range from easy, like the "Adventure Playground" for young climbers, to the ultimately challenging "Black Storm" course for older and more adventurous climbers.

The North Shore Adventure Park is designed, built and operated by the Outdoor Venture Group, which also operates other adventure parks in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Virginia. The company introduced this Swiss-style adventure park to the U.S. in 2008.
