After a slow start, Two Harbors pulled away from Silver Bay for a 60-30 win Thursday, Jan. 24, in Silver Bay.
The Mariner defense held Two Harbors in check through most of the first half, with the Agates eventually building a 24-17 halftime lead.
Despite a better second-half performance on both ends of the floor, Two Harbors missed a number of high percentage shots and went just 11-for-28 from the free-throw line.
Two Harbors senior Tori Bott led all scorers with 14 points and junior Jada Larson scored 12 for the Agates.
Freshman Hannah Thums led Silver Bay with 10 points and junior Lily Lewis had nine.
Another concern for the Agates is mounting injuries, as the Section 7AA tournament approaches at the end of February. Tricia Osbakken has been able to play through a dislocated finger, but junior Emily Olson suffered a season-ending knee injury during the Silver Bay game.
Coach Chris Lemke said as a result, playing time for more of the Agates reserves will increase. The challenge will be to integrate them into the lineup in before their first playoff game Feb. 28.
"Anything can happen if we play well together, but we're having fun and getting through it," Lemke said.
Two Harbors is next scheduled to play Cook County at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Grand Marais.
Silver Bay (2-9) is scheduled to play at Wrenshall at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1.
