Silver Bay junior Jessie Ketola hit a two-out double in the bottom of the third inning with the bases loaded to spark a four-run outburst in the Mariners' 13-3 win over Two Harbors on April 20.
Silver Bay fell behind 3-1 headed into the bottom half of the third following a pair of RBIs from Agate senior Maddy Homstad.
The tone of the game changed, however, in the bottom half of the third inning after the first two batters of the inning failed to get on base. Two Harbors pitcher Emily Olson started having trouble finding the strike zone and walked a pair of batters around an infield single to load the bases.
Ketola came up and hit a blooper into shallow centerfield that dropped in. The hit cleared the bases and Ketola ended up with a stand-up double. Ketola then stole third base and scored on a wild pitch by Olson, giving Silver Bay a 5-3 lead headed into the fourth inning.
Silver Bay coach Mike Guzzo said Silver Bay said his team made really good contact early in the game, perhaps even better than the final few innings, but the hits were right at Agate fielders and were caught.
Pitcher Everly Bauck held the Agate hitters in check over the next two innings, while the Mariners scored twice in the fourth inning and added six in the fifth to end the game early.
Bauck allowed just five hits, struck out five and only walked one batter in five innings of work for Silver Bay.
In addition to Ketola, Cora Carter and Megan Maxey each had three RBIs for Silver Bay.
