Volleyball: Mariners fall to Cook County

The Silver Bay volleyball team lost to Cook County in three sets Tuesday night with scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-10.

"We had a difficult time with the serve receive last night having more off-target passes which resulted in our setter have to chase a little too much, therefore we didn't get the option to do much attacking on our end," head coach Tracy Blood said Wednesday.

Cora Carter had six kills, two digs and two ace serves for the night. Alexxa DeQuevedo had two kills and five blocks. Corrina Marolt had nine set assists and one ace serve. Everly Bauck had eight digs.

Silver Bay also lost to Floodwood on Sept. 28 in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, and 28-16. On Sept. 30, the team had mixed results in a tournament in Two Harbors, losing in two sets to Proctor (25-6, 25-10) and Cook County (25-12, 25-12) but defeating Eveleth-Gilbert in two sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-19.

Silver Bay (4-9) played Moose Lake at home Thursday, too late for the News-Chronicle's deadline.
