Community Partners supports the independence of people age 60 and over and their Caregivers in the Two Harbors area. We offer care consultation; transportation to medical appointments; caregiver counseling and support; respite care; social programs for seniors; grocery shopping and delivery; evidence-based health programs; companionship and more — and we couldn’t do any of it without our volunteers!
This year so far, our volunteers have served 317 people, representing over 5,000 hours of volunteer time. Volunteers save Community Partners thousands of dollars every year. Their time is figured at $22 per hour. That means these 5,000 volunteer hours actually saved Community Partners $110,000.
This year, our volunteers have provided more than 400 rides to medical appointments. Volunteers have delivered over 5,000 meals through Meals on Wheels; spent almost 200 hours shopping for and delivering groceries; provided 40 hours of chore services; and made friendly visits or phone calls to 100 people.
Community Partners has hosted social and educational events, out-to-lunch gatherings, New Memories Café and support groups that supported 177 people in 2019. All of these events and services were provided by 153 volunteers.
Community Partners is blessed with a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers. In fact, two of them — Mary Prestidge and Jerry Carlson — were honored as Outstanding Seniors at the Lake County Fair this year. Between the two of them, they’ve volunteered with Community Partners for 24 years and put in over 4,000 volunteer hours serving over 300 people.
Many of our volunteers give of their time every week to help make the lives of their older neighbors a bit easier.
Students at Minnehaha School participated in a contest to create art that depicts various areas of volunteering. First place went to Addison, 9; second place, Ava, 6; and third place, Natalie, 8. Congratulations!
The artwork will be displayed in the Community Center, outside our office door. While you’re looking at the artwork, don’t forget to check out our Volunteer Line. It’s a listing of volunteer opportunities you might want to look into.
We are in need of more volunteer drivers and grocery shoppers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please give me a call at 218-834-8024 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer a little or a lot — and know that what you do makes a big difference in the lives of others!
