Dena McGregor, 81, died early Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, in Riverside, California, with loved ones at her side.
Dena was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Pine Creek, Wisconsin. When she was 10, her family moved from Minneapolis to Two Harbors. She graduated Two Harbors High School in 1954.
After many years as a homemaker, Dena got her college degree, moved out West, and became a chemical dependency counselor until she retired in 2001.
Dena was a proud feminist who considered her children her greatest achievement. She loved her cats, gardening, decorating, flower arranging, shopping, playing Scrabble, disco music, and anything sparkly and brilliantly colored. She was charming, passionate, opinionated, stubborn, slyly hilarious, and fiercely loving. It is impossible to count the number of people she helped during her lifetime by listening and sharing her hard-earned wisdom.
Dena was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Jesse Larson; first husband Robert Rinne, second husband John ("Jack") McGregor, and sister Dixie Marczak. She is survived by her daughters Monica and Marlys, sons Martin and Robert, sister Dianne Baumgartner, grandchildren Robert, Cory, and Stephanie; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service was held on Sept. 20 in California. She will be forever missed by her family and the many friends she made wherever she went.
