Robert H. Naslund

Robert H.

Robert Naslund, 93, Two Harbors, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at home.

Bob was born September 13, 1924 to John and Anna Maria (Buskala) Naslund in Two Harbors, where he was a life-long resident. After graduating from high school in 1942, he enlisted in the Army, serving from October 1943 until February 1946 as a Sergeant in the 1629th Engineer Construction Battalion in the Philippines. His strongest memories were of the dangerous journey across the Pacific Ocean. He returned home to marry his wife of 70 years, June Alnes.

For many years Bob was a car salesman, working for Benna's, Pearson Motors and Sonju. He loved people and he loved talk. You could have a ten-minute conversation with him and never get a word in edge-wise.

Bob played the piano and accordion by ear and instilled a love of music in his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and a 67-year member of Fortitude Masonic Lodge, being both their oldest and longest serving member.

On May 15, 2012 Bob participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. accompanied by Bob Jr. One of the highlights was being met at the WWII Memorial by his son-in-law, Jeff, grandson, Ben and granddaughter, Emily, in full Marine dress.

Bob never went anywhere without pockets filled with candy. Up to his last day he made regular visits to the library and grocery store to hand out candy to his many admirers.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, June; sons, Bob Jr. (Jacky) Naslund, and John (Jeannine) Naslund; a daughter, Robin Naslund (Jeff Sines); grandchildren, Erik (Anne) Naslund, Nicole (Bjorn) Ojard, Brittany (Nathan) Strudle, Emily (Paul) Culver, Benjamin (Alyssa) Sines, William (Malory) Naslund, and Whitney Naslund; great-grandchildren, Gretta and Anja Ojard, Mattea, Sullivan, and Josephine Strudle; and youngest brother Darrell Naslund.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
