Volleyball: Mariners lose to Ely, NE Range

Silver Bay had a pair of tough, five set losses this week to Ely and Northeast Range.

In the loss Tuesday to Ely in Silver Bay, the Mariners lost 25-16, 21-25, 20-25, 30-28, 15-10. Ely's Brielle Kallberg had 25 kills, 18 digs and 10 blocks. Cora Carter had 17 kills and five ace serves to lead the Mariners and Jocelyn Russell added 10 kills. Junior Alexxa DeQuevedo had six kills and four blocks and senior Everly Bauck had 23 digs. Corrina Marolt added 35 set assists for the Mariners.

On Wednesday against Northeast Range, the Mariners took the first two sets but lost the final three, 23-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19, 15-11.

Silver Bay also topped Lakeview Christian Academy in three sets Oct. 12 in the Lions home gym in Cotton.

Silver Bay (5-12) has yet to learn who and where it will play in the opening round of the Section 7A tournament at 7 p.m. Monday.

Agates end regular season with loss

Two Harbors finished its regular season with a four set loss to Eveleth-Gilbert 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16.

Junior Tori Bott picked up 12 kills and 13 digs and Ali Gelineau had 18 set assists for the Agates. Senior Brenna Gelineau ended the game with six kills and 22 digs, junior Makenna Coan had 21 digs and senior Cassie Prince had seven kills.

Two Harbors (5-17) is waiting to find out who it will face in the opening round of the Section 7AA tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m.
