After seeing 1-2 inches of snowfall beginning Wednesday morning, wind chills will dip to extreme lows around the Northland.

Wind chills will be coldest Wednesday night through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth, though cold wind chills will last through Friday.

The wind chill will drop to around 35 degrees below zero in the Twin Ports and Carlton County, increasingly dropping farther inland.

It can take 10 minutes for frostbite to develop on exposed skin at those values, the weather service said.

Larger snowfall amounts are expected along parts of the South Shore of Lake Superior, with 2-5 inches around Bayfield and 4-8 inches predicted in northern Ashland and Iron counties.
