Motorists will encounter lane closures in the tunnels along Minnesota Highway 61 beginning Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Crews will be performing an inspection of existing tunnel lighting supports over the centerline in the Silver Creek Cliff and Lafayette Bluff tunnels on Minnesota Highway 61, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Lane closures using temporary signals will be required for this work.
Lane closures will begin in the Lafayette Bluff Tunnel, located between Two Harbors and Castle Danger. Lane closures at Silver Creek Cliff — about 3 miles southwest of the other tunnel — will begin after the Lafayette Bluff inspection is complete.
The tunnel work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
