The Lake Superior School District Board certified its 2020 preliminary levy and Truth in Taxation meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the William Kelley Schools in Silver Bay.

The board set its preliminary levy to the maximum allowed by the state, an action recommended by the Minnesota Department of Education. The MDE hasn't yet determined that amount. Once the district and School Board have prepared the preliminary 20-21 budget, the levy can be adjusted down but it can't be raised.

“The recommendation is to certify the preliminary levy at the max, is because we can always go down, but we can never go up,” Superintendent Bill Crandall said.

The LSSD board also set its Truth in Taxation meeting, where it will present the budget for public comment, for 6 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Two Harbors High School community room.
