New eBook model by Macmillan Publishers restricts eBook access
Starting Nov. 1, Macmillan Publishers will allow libraries to purchase only one copy of new eBook titles and prevent libraries from purchasing additional copies for the first eight weeks after each book’s release.
One copy means one copy, regardless of the size of the library. This means waitlists will grow considerably and patrons will wait longer periods for access to eBook titles. The American Library Association denounced this decision by Macmillan Publishers, as this new model prevents libraries from adequately serving their communities. They urge patrons across the country to sign their petition, demanding that access to eBooks should not be restricted.
