Kenny Ahern: Family friendly comic

  • Silver Bay Public Library: Monday, July 8, at 6 p.m.

  • Two Harbors Public Library: Tuesday, July 9, at 6 p.m.

Touring the planet for over two decades, Kenny Ahern has steadily built his reputation as a world-class family entertainer. He is equally at home in the theater as he is frolicking on stage at fairs and "edu-taining" at schools.

"To Laugh is to Live!" is a hilarious family escapade. You are introduced to a whimsical, comic world where the audience happily becomes partners with Kenny's lovable eccentric character. Extraordinary artistry mingles with delightfully daring antics.

Merlon Mayrand displays vibrant photographs at library

Local photographer Merlon Mayrand strives for the perfect shot — the perfect angle, the perfect light, the perfect weather. He’ll return to the same spot for days or weeks, waiting for that optimal moment, and he’ll cross difficult terrain or wade out into the water to achieve that optimal angle.

He’s traveled for his photography as well, from photo shoots of rockets blasting off in Florida to iconic buildings in Washington, D.C. and Minneapolis, but mostly he works on the North Shore. The Split Rock Lighthouse is one of his favorite subjects, and it is particularly featured in the collection of photographs printed on metal currently displayed at the library.
