Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity (WLSHFH) is coming to Silver Bay to repair homes as part of the Age in Place repairs program June 24-28.
This program partners with aging homeowners to support their efforts to safely maintain their homes as their needs evolve, according to a news release from WLSHFH. By partnering with Habitat, homeowners retain independence and a renewed connection with their community.
The repairs will make senior’s day-to-day tasks easier. Projects include rebuilding outside stairs; installing railings; cleaning and repairing gutter systems; scraping and painting homes; and grading concrete walkways.
Silver Bay residents and church members are volunteering with WLSHFH to complete the projects. Sychar Lutheran, St. Mary’s Catholic, Baptism River, United Protestant and Bay Area Vineyard are providing a lunch for the volunteer groups. The partner homeowners provide refreshments and snacks to volunteers, as well as pay a sliding scale partnership fee for the work being done.
WLSHFH serves Lake and Carlton counties, southern St. Louis County, and Douglas County, Wis.
