Sled dog teams competing in this year's Gunflint Mail Run Sled Dog Race will hit the trail Saturday.
There are two classes in the annual race: a 100 mile race for 12-dog teams and a 65 mile race for teams of eight dogs. Both races start and end at Trail Center Lodge, which is up 30 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais.
Sixteen teams have signed up for the shorter race, most of whom are from Minnesota and Wisconsin with the exception of a team from Colorado and Saskatchewan, Canada.
Fourteen teams have signed up for the longer race, including last year's Beargrease winner, Blake Freking and Iditarod veteran Ryan Redington of Alaska. The race ends Sunday.
