In Knife River, a small crowd gathered Thursday, July 4, at the Knife River Recreation Center for a cookout, followed by a sack race, a three-legged race and tug-of-war.

The kids then led a parade from the recreation center to Great Lakes Candy Kitchen.

In Two Harbors on July 4, more than 500 people attended the second annual “Pork and Pie” fundraiser for Community Partners for pulled pork sandwiches, Rustic Inn pie and root beer floats. The event raised more than $10,000 for the nonprofit, whose mission is to help older adults stay in their homes as long as possible.

As "Pork and Pie" wound down, the crowd migrated over to Thomas Owens Park for a slate of patriotic songs from the Two Harbors City Band.

After the concert, more people made their way into town to watch the fireworks display over Agate Bay.
