The United Church of Two Harbors celebrated its 50th anniversary through a series of community events last week. In 1969, the First Presbyterian Church and the Wesley United Methodist Church joined forces to become the United Church.

The highlight of the celebration Saturday, June 15, was when church member Jose Leon unveiled one of two stained glass windows created for the church, accompanied by live music. The window displays the Ascension of Jesus along with commemoration of the church's 50 years. The windows will be installed permanently later this summer.

Tours were given of the 115-year-old church building and former pastors from several decades contributed their stories and memories. Community picnics and potlucks were held throughout the weekend as well.
