Finland news: Dec. 16

The North Shore Voices held their annual Christmas concert at Zion Lutheran Church last Thursday evening and again Sunday at the William Kelley High School.

Get well wishes go out to Janet Barnes who is now in Lake View Hospital in Two Harbors.

Get well wishes also go out to Shirley Beck who had recently been in the hospital and is now back home.

Birthday greetings go to out to Roy Johnson on his 88th birthday. Roy and his family motored up from Duluth Sunday to celebrate and get together with relatives at Our Place for lunch.

Finland Fire and Rescue held their annual Christmas party Friday evening at the Fire Hall. Steaks and chicken were grilled again by the expert chefs, Jim Bischoff and Bob Curry in some very cold weather.

Ron VanBergen and Jim Bischoff put on an excellent program bringing back "The Twelve Days of Christmas," selecting some of the firemen to do a performance.

Fire Chief Pete Walsh and Captain B.J. Kohlstedt spoke about this last year, and to thank everyone for what they do. Fireman of the Year went to four people this year: Chris Sinderman, Colin Bischoff, Travis Ahlbeck, and Shawn Nowotczynski. Congratulations to them for their hard work and dedication.

Once again it is a beautiful sight to see the Cross shining bright on top of Silver Hill. Thank you to those that work to make this happen: Ron VanBergen, John Bachar, Paul Moran, Barret Stavseth, Jimmy and Larry Hickman. The community appreciates your efforts very much.

Zion Lutheran Church will be having a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 4:30 p.m. and a service on Sunday at the regular time, 11:30 a.m.
