The News-Chronicle may be looking for a new home as the paper's office at 109 Waterfront Drive is for sale.

Publisher Neal Ronquist said the timing is right to explore options for Lake County's paper of record as the news business looks to stay competitive.

The 2,880-square-foot building is listed for $109,000.

Trevor Samsa of Greg Follmer Commercial Real Estate said that while Two Harbors commercial real estate moves slowly — except along Highway 61 — the building could be attractive to any number of buyers.

"It's a smaller building, and it is an affordable property," said Samsa, who is representing the building. "It's hard to tell in that market."

A retailer or more likely an office user could take over the newspaper's space — or the News-Chronicle could remain as a tenant. Ronquist said that all options are on the table for the paper's headquarters.

Another business in the same building will remain until 2020, Samsa said.

The Duluth News Tribune, which along with the News-Chronicle is owned by Forum Communications, is also looking for a potential new home. The Duluth paper's 64,000-square-foot building at 424 W. First St. is listed for $2.9 million.
