Meet and mingle with Arctic explorer Lonnie Dupre on Thursday, July 12, from 7-9 p.m. at Split Rock Lighthouse, Two Harbors. Dupre will share a multimedia presentation about his four attempts to climb Denali in the dead of winter, followed by a signing of his book, “Alone at the Top,” co-authored by Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Pam Louwagie. Two of Lonnie's expedition sponsors, Voyageur Brewing and Granite Gear, will be on-site for a tasting and "show-and-tell."

The William Kelley High School Class of 1973 will celebrate its 45th reunion July 13-15 in Silver Bay. The class started kindergarten in 1960. Silver Bay was a new town. Campton Elementary — now Minnesota Veterans Home — was a new school, built with financial backing from Reserve Mining Company, the new taconite processing plant on the North Shore of Lake Superior. There were so many kids that elementary classes overflowed to the high school.
