A 39-year-old Two Harbors man was killed on Friday morning in a head-on collision northeast of Two Harbors. Jason Paul Wilkes died in the crash that occurred on state Highway 61 north of Crow Creek in Silver Creek Township at about 8:15 a.m., the Minnesota State Patrol and Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported. Wilkes was driving a 1993 Honda Accord north on Highway 61 when it collided with a southbound 2018 GMC Sierra. The State Patrol report did not say which vehicle crossed the centerline; there was snow and ice on the road at the time of the crash.
A 14-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon after falling off a cliff at Palisade Head, located along the shore of Lake Superior northeast of Silver Bay. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received word of the incident shortly after 1 p.m. A sheriff’s report said the girl was visiting the North Shore landmark with friends when she accidentally fell.
State computer security specialists discovered malicious software on state computers at Tettegouche State Park near Silver Bay last month, and are urging visitors there to check their credit card accounts for any fraud. While state officials say they haven’t heard of any hacked credit card accounts, they are taking the Aug. 25 malware discovery seriously.
A 50-year-old Grand Forks, N.D., woman was killed Wednesday when a pickup truck turned in front of her motorcycle on Minnesota Highway 61 northeast of Two Harbors, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

FINLAND — Officers from the Lake County and St. Louis County sheriff's offices and Minnesota State Patrol were searching Sunday for a man believed to be armed near Finland. The search was focused in an area off Minnesota Highway 1 near Lax Lake Road.
An 18-year-old Superior woman was killed in a collision Tuesday morning in snowy conditions on Minnesota Highway 61 near Two Harbors. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the woman, who has not yet been identified, lost control of her northbound 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier on the highway at the intersection with Scenic Highway 61 on the southwest side of Two Harbors just after 10 a.m. She crossed into the southbound lane, striking a 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 24-year-old Linnea L. Leonard of Grand Marais.
