The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources annually traps beavers and removes beaver dams on the Knife River to improve stream and stream bank habitat. The current speed reduction warning sign along the southbound side of Scenic Highway 61 just before Knife River. Two of the pictured signs and a regular 40 mph speed limit sign warn motorists of the reduction from 55 mph through Knife River.
