Legion Baseball: Best strikes out 13 in Rivals win

Lake Superior Rivals pitcher Easton Best struck out 13 batters from Moose Lake in an 11-2 win June 29 in Moose Lake.

Best allowed just three hits and two runs over six innings while also collecting three hits and three RBIs.

The Rivals scored in three of the first four innings and built a 10-0 lead before Moose Lake got a run across the plate.

Trey Fleck also had three hits and pair of RBIs and Tim Luoma had two hits for Lake Superior.

On Saturday, Brett Olson struck out six batters in a 10-4 loss to Deer River in Two Harbors.

Despite a strong effort from Olson, the Rivals had problems in the field allowing four errors and only managed four hits in the game.

The Rivals battled to 1-1 tie after three innings, but allowed nine runs over the final four innings to fall to Deer River.

Finally, on Wednesday the Rivals fell to Ely 9-5 in Two Harbors with Best striking out six batters and getting three hits.

Lake Superior scored five runs over the final two innings, but allowed eight over the same span to fall. Fielding remained a problem for the Rivals as the team again committed four errors in the game.

Brett Olson collected three RBIs and struck out two in relief of Best.

Lake Superior is now 2-7 on the season.
