A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Beaver Bay Trail Head rest stop was held on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Representatives from a wide variety of state, federal and local agencies spoke of the collaborative 10-year effort to make the rest stop become a reality.

With introductions by Bonnie Hundrieser from the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, Beaver Bay Mayor Kent Shamblin was the first to thank everyone involved for executing their part in the planning of the site, saying, “Through the cooperation of everyone here today, this location will serve as a rest stop with historic significance, a tourist information center and will serve the community as economic development asset.”

While construction will begin soon, the seasonal rest stop will not be open to the public until the spring of 2015
