Volleyball: Agates pick up two wins

Two Harbors had one of its best weeks of the season, picking up wins over McGregor and Lakeview Christian Academy and losing to Cromwell-Wright.

On Oct. 5 against McGregor, junior Tori Bott recorded a season-high 23 kills in a 25-21, 26-24, 25-8 win. Junior Ali Gelineau had 22 set assists and Makenna Coan had 18 digs in the victory for Two Harbors.

Monday, Two Harbors swept Lakeview Christian Academy 25-17, 25-19, 25-13 with Bott again leading the way with 15 kills, six ace serves and 10 digs. Ali Gelineau had 22 set assists for the second time this week and Brenna Gelineau had 12 digs for the Agates.

A day later Two Harbors faced off against Cromwell-Wright, losing 25-22, 25-2, 25-21. The Agates played two competitive sets, but the Cardinals played flawless volleyball in the second set and several Agate errors resulted in a blowout. Bott had eight kills and 11 digs, Coan had 22 digs and Ali Gelineau had 11 set assists and 11 digs.

Two Harbors (5-17) will host Eveleth-Gilbert in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. Monday.

Silver Bay falls short in two matches

Silver Bay fell to Moose Lake-Willow River in four sets Oct. 5 and Barnum in five sets on Tuesday.

The Mariners were defeated by Rebels 25-21, 24-26, 25-27 and 25-17. Every Bauck had 10 digs and Corrina Marolt had 27 set assists. Cora Carter has 16 kills, Alexxa DeQuevedo had 11 kills and four block, and Jocelyn Russell had eight kills and six digs.

The Bombers defeated Silver Bay 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-12. Against Barnum, Carter had 15 kills, DeQuevedo had seven kills and five blocks, and Russell had 11 kills.

The Mariners played Lakeview Christian Academy Thursday too late for the News-Chronicle's deadline. Silver Bay plays at home against Ely at 6:30 p.m. Monday and is away at Northeast Range Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
