Gracie Komarek, a Two Harbors High School junior on the North Shore girls hockey team, was voted the "Fans' Choice for Top Performer" on the Minnesota Girls' Hockey Hub website for the week of Jan. 22-27.

Komarek was nominated after her North Shore's 5-3 win over Hayward on Jan. 25 where she had three goals and a power-play assist.

North Shore girls head coach Neva Maxwell said Komarek's performance against Hayward as "a really well-played game." The Storm had lost a couple of games in a row and had also lost to Hayward earlier in the season, so Maxwell mixed the lines up a bit and Komarek was able to take advantage of the environment on the ice.

"That game we switched up the lines a little bit and I was working with a couple of girls I normally don't work with and it worked out pretty well," Komarek said. "I think I was in the right spot at the right times and I was able to bring it down the ice, shoot and it just worked in my favor."

Komarek's teammates, who voted her in as a captain, were excited when it was announced she was a candidate for the Hub's Top Performer.

"When Gracie was nominated, the girls were very, very supportive. Everyone was instantly on their phones sending votes for her," Maxwell said.

Komarek said even though the nomination was unexpected, she appreciated the support from everyone who voted.

"I was definitely shocked to find out I was recognized by hockey hub, it was unexpected," Komarek said. "It was an honor to be nominated and voted in by my teammates and coaches, I know a lot of people in my community voted, and even outside the community."

Komarek's honor was well deserved, Maxwell said.

"It was really nice to see somebody that has been working really hard this season get recognized like that," Maxwell said.
