Bayside Chatter: Storm boys season ends with loss
The Storm boys' season came to an end with a 5-3 loss in Coleraine to the Greenway Raiders in a Section 7A quarterfinal contest. Taylor Lantz set up four of the Raider goals with assists and Casadonte Lawson scored two of them. Chad Nordean had a goal and an assist for the Storm and Tanner Ketola had two assists.
The Storm struck first with a first period goal from Jake Swanson set up by Nick Hendrickson and Ketola. Before the period ended Grant Troumbly and Michael Chupurdia scored for the Raiders to give them a 2-1 lead.
The Storm took the only three penalties of the second period and as a result were outshot 20-9 in the period and outscored 3-0. Bay Zuehlke made it 3-1 and Lawson scored twice to make it 5-1 after two periods of play.
Easton Best, with assists from Nordean and Ketola, cut the deficit to 5-2 with 6:48 left to play. A minute and 41 seconds later, Nordean cut it to 5-3 with an assist from Logan Loiselle. The Raiders then took their timeout and held the Storm scoreless for the rest of the period. The shots were 8-8 in period one and 10-10 in period three, but the second period was too much to overcome.
Tyler Keech finished the game with 33 saves in the Storm net. Austin Anick made 24 stops for the Raiders. The Storm finish the season with a record of 14-10-2.
Other hockey news
Jessie Ketola, Gracie Komarek and Olivia Kempfert each had an assist as their Storm team beat the Tempest 4-3 in the Futures Game at Cloquet.
In the All-Star game the Ice with Brooke McMillen and Everly Bauck beat their coaches, Brian Entzion and Biz Huss and the Fire 6-5 in a shoot out.
The North Shore bantam A team begins play today in the North Region at Silver Bay versus Greeenway. The North Shore bantam B team begins play at the North Region at Two Harbors versus Eveleth-Gilbert/Mesabi East. The North Shore 12U B team begins play at the Olympic Region at Warroad versus Hibbing.
