Football: Mariners pick up second win
Silver Bay won their second game of the season last Friday against Hill City/Northland, 33-6.
Head coach Ward Kaiser said the Mariners "jumped on them (Hill City) fairly early." The team took the lead early, scoring three touchdowns and two field goals in just the first quarter.
"It felt like we continued what we did a week before — prove that we had improved," said head coach Ward Kaiser.
While Silver Bay did not win against South Ridge on Sept. 29, the team managed to lead 12-8 at halftime and coaches and players still felt like the 20-12 loss was an improvement over the two games before it.
Silver Bay scored another touchdown in the second quarter but missed the extra point. They scored again and made the extra point in the third quarter but remained scoreless in the fourth quarter. Hill City managed to score their sole touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Kaiser said tough opponents in past games had prepared the team for Friday.
"With the hard work and the tough teams we've had to play... we felt this one was pretty favorable for us going in," Kaiser said.
Silver Bay plays Ely at home tonight at 7 p.m. Their last a game of the regular season will be against Northeast Range on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
