Football: Mariners limped away in Cook County loss
Injuries and illness left several Silver Bay starters on the sideline Sept. 8 in their 56-8 loss against Cook County.
Senior quarterback Jason Blood was pulled from the game in the second quarter following an injury that resulted in "deep bruising," according to Silver Bay head coach Ward Kaiser. He was replaced by Riley Tiboni.
"The game on (Sept. 8) was about what kind of grit we had," Kaiser said of the changes they had to make.
Silver Bay remained scoreless until the fourth quarter, when Tiboni managed to put points on the board for the Mariners with a 65-yard touchdown. Giovanni Martolt then earned the extra points in a two-point conversion.
Kaiser expects two or three starters to sit out tonight's game as well. As of Tuesday, he was not sure if Blood would return by tonight or would need to wait another week.
"If we can go in there and our guys play hard and never give up, good things can happen," said Kaiser.
The Silver Bay Mariners play North Woods tonight at 7 p.m. at William Kelley High School in Silver Bay.
