Blood leads Mariners over Vikings
Silver Bay junior Jason Blood scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead the Mariners to a 66-55 win over the Cook County Vikings Tuesday in Silver Bay.
Blood also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out six assists and made three steals in the effort.
Silver Bay senior Hunter Monson scored 17 points and shot better than 63 percent in the win and as a team the Mariners shot 54 percent.
Silver Bay outscored the Vikings 34-28 in the first half and rode the solid shooting night to the victory.
Other scorers for the Mariners included Jerry Congious III with nine points, Weston Monson with eight, Mason Ollman with seven and Zach Lewis with two.
On Feb. 10, turnovers plagued Silver Bay and led to an 84-65 loss to Carlton. The Bulldogs had plenty of motivation to play well after Silver Bay ended Carlton's season last year with a 55-45 win in the opening round of the 2016 Section 7A playoffs.
The Mariners committed 32 turnovers and allowed Carlton to get out to a 21-1 lead before getting their offense going.
Hunter Monson had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Silver Bay and Blood also had 19 points in the game.
Waylon Lekander led all scorers with 21 points for Carlton.
Other scorers for Silver Bay included: Weston Monson with 10 points; Congious with 8; Ollman and Zach Lewis with three points each; Riley Tiboni with two; and Jared DeHart with one point.
Silver Bay (12-7) plays Wrenshall at 6:30 p.m. today in Silver Bay.
Agates get win over South Ridge
Two Harbors sophomore Jayden Ruberg scored 26 points in the Agates' first win in more than a month, a 77-67 victory over South Ridge Feb. 10 in Culver.
Two Harbors fell behind 35-29 in the first half, but responded with 48 second half points, one of their best offensive performances of the season, to get the win.
In addition to Ruberg, Ian Johnson scored 17 points and Brian Dugger scored 12. Other scorers for the Agates included Karter Kinn with eight points, Ollie Carpenter with six, Matahn Jenkins with five and Alex Oling with three.
Two Harbors (6-13) will play at Esko at 7:15 p.m. today.
