0 Talk about it

In the first round, Barnum and Two Harbors advanced to face off in the championship game. Barnum took the tournament, defeating the Agates 47-28 in the final match. Marshall took third by beating Silver Bay 53-22 in the final round.

In the Barnum game, the Agates spread the scoring out among seven players. Senior Lane Schraufnagel scored seven points, including one three-pointer, to lead the team, with junior Casey Cross scoring 5.

In the Mariners’ loss, junior Tara Dow and senior Brandi Nopola were the only players to put points on the board. Dow had 15 and Nopola had 7.

The Agates play tonight at home against Isle, tomorrow at Proctor and next Tuesday at Mesabi East H.S.

Boys’ basketball

The Agate boys split two away games over the break, losing to Barnum on Saturday and defeating Carlton on Monday.

The boys played well in the first half against the Bombers, scoring 21 points to Barnum’s 28. They ran out of steam in the second half, though, as Barnum put up 48 points and the Agates answered with just 29. They lost 50-76. Junior Alex Lemke led the scoring with 17 points and junior Kyler Kinn had 9 points.

Saturday’s weak second half was redeemed on Monday, when the Agates decidedly took back a close game. They outscored the Bulldogs by almost 20 points after ending the first half neck and neck. Junior Tim Bott led scoring with 16 points, including 2 three-pointers. Lemke had 15 points and senior Kyle Omtvedt had 12 points in the win.
