Soccer: Agates shut out Zimmerman

Two Harbors shut out Zimmerman Saturday 2-0 with Elise Poe-Johnson and Morgan Beardsley each scoring a goal in the Agates only win of the week.

Poe-Johnson scored her first first goal of the season with a long shot over the goalkeeper from the right side in the 35th minute and Beardsley scored her sixth goal of the season on a breakaway in the 65th minute to put the game out of reach. Callie Bergerson had five saves in the game.

Two Harbors also played Hermantown to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 21 with Bergerson making 15 saves for the Agates. Two Harbors managed only three shots on goal in the game. Coach Tom Szendrey said the Agates played an outstanding defensive game, forcing long shots, with Madison Eckman and Brianna Hiukka making solid contributions to the Agate shut out.

On Tuesday against Duluth Marshall, Two Harbors lost 4-0. The Agates played well defensively in the first half, but two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half set the tone. Bergerson had 10 saves for Two Harbors.

Two Harbors (4-5-4) will play North Branch at 1 p.m. Saturday in North Branch.
