Baseball: Agates win slugfest over Carlton
Two Harbors senior Tim Luoma hit a pair of home runs and had six RBIs in the Agates' 18-14 win over Carlton May 11.
The Bulldogs' jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first inning, but Two Harbors answered with six more in the top of the second, setting off a back-and-forth game that the Agates finally took control of in the top of the eighth. With the score tied at 13 to start the inning, Two Harbors went on to score five runs, all with two outs, when Carson Wenger scored on a wild pitch, followed by senior Keller Conrow driving in Eric Carlson and Easton Best to give the Agates the lead for good.
Conrow went 3-for-5 in the game and had four RBIs while Best was 2-for-3 with four runs scored. Cody Brandt allowed four earned runs and struck out four batters in the win.
The next day, Conrow took the mound for Two Harbors and allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out nine batters in a 9-2 win over Cook County. Olson went 4-for-4 and collected three RBIs in the win for the Agates and Trey Fleck had a hit and two RBIs.
Two Harbors game against McGregor-Cromwell Tuesday was postponed due to weather.
The Agates (9-3) have now won five straight games and played Ashland Thursday, too late for the News-Chronicle's deadline and will play a doubleheader Saturday in Two Harbors. Two Harbors will start the day at 11 a.m. against Pine City and taken on West Fargo Sheyenne at 4 p.m.
