Lake Superior Horseshoe League wraps up 2nd season
The Lake Superior Horseshoe League wrapped up its second season on Monday. Seven players returned from the 2015 season and were joined by one new-comer for the 13 week season. The season was shortened by one rainout and the July 4 holiday falling on a Monday.
Joe Raycraft edged out 2015 champion Greg Hanson by one game to take the top spot in 2016. After holding first place for most of the season, Howie Tullgren faltered in winning only four of his last 12 games to finish third. Rey Lakso Jr. made a strong run winning nine of 12 games in finishing fourth.
The race for the most improved player was very close with Grover Melander repeating from 2015 by improving his ringer percentage by 3.98 percent. Rey Lakso Jr. improved by 3.5 percent and Raycraft improved by 3.33 percent.
Players are already looking forward to the 2017 season and hoping to recruit some new players to grow the league. Anyone interested in joining this league or with questions about horseshoe pitching are asked to call Joe Raycraft at 834-5613.
