Kenneth "Kenny" Vogel, age 57, of Silver Bay, MN passed away August 16th peacefully in his sleep at his lake mobile home at Timber Wolf Lodge campground on Bear Island Lake, Babbitt MN. He is survived by his wife Ann Snyder, daughter Kristin Vogel and son Tony Vogel of Coon Rapids MN, his children's mother Lois Vogel of Shoreview MN, parents Wilfred "Bill" & Caryl "Kay" Vogel, brother Robert "Bob" (Laura) Vogel, sisters Janet "Shawsee" (Bryan) Freeman, Mary (John) Christiansen all of New Market MN and loving nephew, nieces, and grandnieces. Ken was born June 9 1960 in New Prague, MN. He grew up in his hometown of New Market, MN until he ventured onto Vermillion Community College in Ely, MN to receive his degree in Natural Resource Technologies and later attended the law enforcement academy in Rochester, MN. Ken was employed as a police officer and detective for 12 years for the City of Blaine, MN until he had to retire due to medical injuries. He missed being a police officer and spent his retirement finding ways to help people. Ken married his wife Ann on August 11th 2012; they celebrated their 5th anniversary & spent the weekend at their lake home. Ken had decided to stay the week to do some fishing. He loved visiting & fishing with his beloved extended "family" at the campground. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors in the woods. He spent time tending to his many bird feeders, along with caring for his dogs Sammy and Gus. In the kitchen he loved to create new cooking recipes. He had many bake-offs with his neighbor Bev Yoki. His cooking creations will be missed by his wife, neighbors, & friends he shared the goodies with. Ken fulfilled his bucket list wish of living on the Lake Superior North Shore. He loved meeting all the North Shore people and writing about them for the Lake County News Chronicle newspaper in Two Harbors MN. He made many new friends through his journalist career. Ken also loved writing poetry and prayers in his spare time. Ken will be missed by his loving family, friends and all who knew him. All arrangements will be at White Funeral Home, 20134 Kenwood Trail, Lakeville, MN. Visitation Thursday August 24th from 5pm - 7pm. Funeral service will be at 11am Friday, August 25th, with visitation one hour prior to service. Following the service there will be a luncheon at Firehouse restaurant in New Market.
