ELIZABETH A. "BETTE" L'ESPERANCE

Funeral services for Elizabeth A. "Bette" L'Esperance, 92, of Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Two Harbors were held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, Feb. 13, at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors at a later date. Bonnerup Funeral Service assisted the family.

Elizabeth died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Oak Park Place in Albert Lea, Minn.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1925, in Campbellford, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of James and Frances Blute. Due to her childhood health difficulties, Bette was raised by James and Minta Kerr.

She graduated from St. Peter Catholic School in Trenton, Ontario and also from Belleview Business College in Ontario, Canada.

She married her soul mate Bernard Francis L'Esperance at St. Peter Catholic Church in Trenton, Ontario on June 2, 1951.

They eventually settled in Two Harbors, Minn. where Bernard began his medical career.

In addition to diligently supporting Dr. Bernard in his career, Bette had worked at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. and taught French at Two Harbors High School. She also taught Sunday School at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.

They retired in Sun City West, Ariz., where Bette volunteered to teach immigrants the English language.

Bette loved music, playing the piano, dancing, swimming, ice skating, golf, and playing Bridge.

Bette had a heart of gold and will be fondly remembered for her gifts of giving, sharing and helping others in need and for her strong faith in God. She is survived by her children, Jim L'Esperance of Tucson, Ariz., Mary Beth (Frank) Mueller of Clarks Grove, Minn., Amy (Ken) LaBounty of Superior, Bernie (Theresa) L'Esperance of Tomahawk, Wis., Debbie (Lee) Wick of Maple Grove, Minn., Mike (Kim) L'Esperance of Two Harbors; 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Bernard L'Esperance in June of 2016, her parents James and Frances Blute, and James and Minta Kerr who raised her.
