Soccer: Agates' season ends in loss to Esko

Two Harbors offense failed to score a goal in a first round playoff loss to Esko Oct. 12 in Esko. The Agate defense kept the Eskomos in check throughout the first half, but Kristi Demuth and Tori Vosburg both got a shot past goalie Callie Bergerson in the second half to give Esko the 2-0 win, both off free kicks. Bergerson finished the game with 10 saves.

"The defenders did a fabulous job not allowing Esko any close range shots," coach Tom Sezendrey said. "They played, and supported each other, like a team as they did all season long. I couldn't have asked for a better effort."

Despite the early playoff exit, Two Harbors ended the season 6-7-4 but made some drastic strides over its 2016 campaign when the the team garnered just four wins and were shut out eight different times.

The Agates will have to replace a number of strong defensive players that will graduate in the spring including Katie Archer, Brianna Hiukka and Carina Hebl.

"Our team has a lot to build on for next season, primarily the way they developed their passing game during the course of the season," Tom Szendrey said.
