Deadline nears for federal storm assistance
State agencies, local and tribal governments, and some private nonprofit
organizations in Minnesota have until Sunday to apply for federal public assistance to help recover from June's severe storms and flooding.
Fifteen counties -- including Carlton, Cook, Lake and St. Louis -- along with the Fond du Lac and Grand Portage Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa, are eligible for reimbursement for expenses they incurred while taking emergency measures to protect lives and property.
Private nonprofit organizations may apply to Federal Emergency Management Agency for public assistance to cover uninsured costs of debris
removal and emergency protective measures. Nonprofits also may qualify for FEMA assistance to make infrastructure repairs if they provide critical
services such as communications, power, water, emergency response or medical treatment.
