Army Corps’ TH office closes

The St. Paul District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed its regulatory office in Two Harbors and relocated all operations to Duluth.

The new office on Lake Avenue in Duluth will increase efficiency and improve communication between the St. Paul District and the Detroit District, the Corps said in a release. The office in Two Harbors closed last Thursday.

Nearly 650 St. Paul District employees in five states serve the public through work related to the outdoors, including environmental enhancement, navigation and disaster response.

CodeRED: Sheriff’s office promotes emergency notification system

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is promoting its countywide emergency notification system, which is replacing the siren systems formerly used in some municipalities.

CodeRED sends out text messages, emails and automated phone calls to residents when there is an emergency, like an extreme weather event. The county is encouraging everyone to sign up to ensure that messages go out to as many residents as possible.

Sign up by visiting and clicking CodeRED. You can also sign up by calling the sheriff’s dispatch number at (218) 834-8385.

The warning technology is used in many communities throughout the U.S., making it possible for travelers to receive alerts wherever CodeRED is used.

Calls from CodeRED will be automated messages. The sheriff’s office reminds residents that they will only ask for addresses, phone numbers and emails, according to a press release. They said if anyone calls claiming to be from CodeRED and asking for more personal information, the resident should immediately hang up and call the sheriff’s office.

Rumble strip work begins

Minnesota Department of Transportation crews will begin filling in centerline rumble strips on Monday and Tuesday in Lake and Cook counties.

The rumble strips, which are grooves in the road designed to jolt inattentive or fatigued drivers, are being filled in after MNDoT received hundreds of noise complaints.

Motorists can expect single-lane closures at the work sites. The work is expected to take a month.
