The Two Harbors Fire Department recently honored two retiring members at its annual banquet. Both men advanced to leadership roles serving as officers for the THFD.

Greg Nordean has served as captain and assistant chief and has been with the department for 20 years. Todd Hanson, a 22-year veteran, has served as captain.

“I loved meeting and helping the people, this is a great community” Hanson said, “the THFD is fortunate to have wonderful community support. It gave me a good feeling.”

THFD Chief Mark Schlangen praised both men, pointing out that each went the extra mile for the community.

“It is a great demonstration of service for a person to train and respond as a firefighter,” Schlangen said, “to go above and beyond this service and serve as an officer on the department is very commendable. “ Chief Schlangen then acknowledged the men’s dedication and that of those who supported their commitment.

“Together, Todd and Greg have 42 years of serving the community,” he said, “special thanks go out to their families and employers for supporting them throughout their years of service.”

As for his retirement and less demanding schedule, Hanson said he’ll enjoy having a little more free time.

“Now it will be easier to go on vacation,” he quipped.
