Fire destroys garage, damages adjacent house in Two Harbors

A garage was destroyed and the adjacent house damaged by a fire in Two Harbors on Saturday.

The Two Harbors Fire Department was called to what was reported as an explosion in the 1300 block of Press Camp Road shortly before noon, Fire Chief Mark Schlangen said.

When firefighters arrived, the two-car garage was engulfed, and flames had extended into the house’s attic space, Schlangen said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire before it could extend farther, but the garage was a total loss and the house sustained significant damage, Schlangen said.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, Schlangen said. The fire was reported by a neighbor. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and it couldn’t be confirmed that it began as an explosion.

The house’s lone occupant was able to stay with relatives, Schlangen said.

Firefighters from Silver Bay and Clifton helped Two Harbors firefighters at the scene, he said.
